Ideation
From Conversation to Concept
Sketches after session
The idea for Whit & Black was first sparked during a conversation I had with my co-op partner while we were playing SPLIT FICTION earlier this year. The experience opened my eyes to the power of asymmetrical co-op dynamics—games where each player takes on a distinct role, with unique skills and responsibilities.

First Playable Prototype (Godot Engine)
Inspired by that moment, I began developing Whit & Black as a personal project. The game features two characters with completely different abilities, designed to complement and challenge each other through contrast.
It explores how light and shadow can interact not only as visual elements but as a foundation for puzzle-solving and co-operative gameplay.
Game Mechanics
Early concept of main characters
The game features a young girl and a floating spirit, working together to find their way home.
The girl represents the physical presence in the world — she moves, jumps, and interacts with tangible objects, but she is vulnerable to darkness.
The spirit is her guide and guardian, capable of manipulating light sources and casting dynamic shadows that reshape the environment.
The spirit shapeshifts into many forms and remains with the player, leading the way.
Nature-Based Environmental Interaction
The spirit controls natural elements: Grows leaves, vines, or branches to form temporary platforms, bridges, or walls.
Rooted Growth System
Growth begins from anchor points — such as rocks, soil, or existing plants. Each structure must remain connected to a valid surface to persist. Early in the game, only one growth is allowed at a time, with upgrades unlocking multiple or branching paths later.
Fusion State Mechanic
The player can temporarily fuse the girl with the light spirit, entering a high-energy state that enhances movement and traversal.
While fused, the character: Moves faster, enabling quick repositioning or timed puzzle solutions
Can phase through specific environmental objects, such as vines, magical barriers, or corrupted terrain Gains access to areas otherwise unreachable in normal form
Dual-Purpose Throw Item
A throwable item that splits into two functions.
One teleports the girl, the other activates mechanisms remotely or in the alternate world.
